The US Department of Transport has announced a new funding injection of 175 million USD as part of the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Ferry Boat Program.

The funding will be awarded to 35 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa and will be used to improve ferry services, as well as provide more travel options for communities across the country.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy, said:

We make life easier when we make the transportation of people and products smoother.

In places like Alaska, our maritime highways are critical arteries for commuters and regional supply chains. From our skies to our roads, rail networks, and waterways, America is building again thanks to President Trump.

The funding will be eligible to construct and operate ferry boats, terminals and maintenance facilities for ferry boats carrying cars and passengers, as well as ferry boats carrying passengers only if the service is on a public route lacking necessary space or infrastructure to build a bridge or tunnel.
