FlyTahoe’s Candela P-12 electric ferry has been designated as a ‘key environmental improvement project’ in the Lake Tahoe Regional Transportation Plan.
The project seeks to establish a potential solution to cut traffic, lower emissions and protect the lake from environmental harm.

The ferry, which has previously been listed by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) as an Environmental Improvement Project (EIP), has been now been included in the Connections 2050 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) as a ‘key concept for waterborne transit in the Tahoe region’.
Developed over the course of four years; inclusion in the RTP indicates strong support for the FlyTahoe concept by introducing it into the federal transportation planning framework, positioning it for future eligibility under the Federal Transportation Improvement Program (FTIP).
Ryan Meinzer, Founder and CEO of FlyTahoe, said:We’re deeply humbled to be highlighted by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency in its Regional Transportation Plan,” said Meinzer. “TRPA’s leadership reflects our shared vision: to preserve the beauty of Lake Tahoe while better connecting its shoreline communities.
FlyTahoe’s Candela P-12 is already in operation in Stockholm, and seeks to reduce the environmental cost of waterborne travel by utilising electric hydrofoil technology – a form of propulsion that allows the vessel to ‘fly’ above water, in turn generating no wake, shoreline erosion or noise.
FlyTahoe has stated that it ‘aims to balance accessibility, inclusivity, and equity for both locals and visitors—while supporting the RTP’s goals, including environmental protection, multimodal mobility, safety, system performance, economic prosperity, and infrastructure resiliency’.
