Wärtsilä has been chosen to provide a fully integrated electric propulsion system with water jets for a set of high-speed catamaran ferries currently under construction for Molslinjen.

The new battery-electric vessels are currently being built at the Incat shipyard in Tasmania, and Wärtsilä has been selected to provide the vehicles’ integrated electric propulsion system, the DC power conversion system, its energy management and automation systems, eight electric propulsion motors and waterjets, as well as the Wärtsilä ProTouch propulsion control system.

Once complete, the two 129-metre-long ferries will serve the Kattegat route and accommodate up to 1,483 passengers and 500 cars, increasing the total capacity for cars and passengers on the route by over 25%.

Wärtsilä’s equipment is scheduled to be delivered in 2026, with the ships expected to join the fleet in 2027 and 2028.
