Swedish electric boat manufacturer Candela has entered an agreement with Thai operator Seudamgo by Leopard Transportation Co., Ltd. for the supply of 10 Candela P-12 electric hydrofoil ferries to operate along a route between the mainland and Koh Kood in the Trat province.
The partnership, which was signed during the SX Sustainability Expo, looks to eliminate the use of gasoline-powered speedboats, which until now have been the sole method of transportation for tourists looking to visit the island.

Candela’s P12 electric hydrofoil vessels offer a transport solution that uses up to 80% less energy than traditional boats, produce zero emissions and leave almost no wake or noise.
Once in operation; the fleet will allow Seudamgo to provide frequent daily departures to and from the island of Koh Kood for up to 20 passengers at any one time.
Surachai Suwanthanakul, CEO of Leopard Transportation Co., Ltd., said:Candela’s P-12 foil electric technology is a game-changer. It represents a truly sustainable vessel – free from emissions, oil spills, and underwater noise. At the same time, it offers passengers a superior experience – you can’t really get seasick on board a Candela.
We are proud to be the first to bring this unique technology to Thailand and South-East Asia.
The delivery will consist of 10 12-metre-long Business models of the P-12 vessels, each of which will feature premium seating and a spacious interior. The vessels are capable of cruising at 25+ knots, and will be able to cover the 20-nautical mile route in 40 minutes.
Björn Antonsson, Candela’s Regional CEO Asia-Pacific, said:Thailand is one of the most exciting markets for sustainable water transport.
With its thousands of islands, big rivers and vibrant tourism industry, the country can truly benefit from our technology. Partnering with Seudamgo to introduce the P-12 fleet is a fantastic beginning – we see enormous potential to expand clean, efficient hydrofoil transport across Thailand and the wider region.
