Nevomo has signed an agreement with DP World and the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) to deploy a magnetic propulsion solution that allows for self-propelled movement of bulk cargo and containers at Deendayal Port.

A 750-metre MagRail Booster pilot track will be installed within the port and aims to demonstrate fully automated and sustainable cargo movement that utilises existing rail infrastructure – eliminating the need for conventional locomotives while increasing port capacity, efficiency and safety.

A feasibility study will also be carried out to assess the potential for large-scale deployment of the technology across ports in India, which aligns with the Government of India’s PM Gati Shakti Master Plan, as well as the Harit Sagar Green Port Guidelines.

MagRail systems are designed to automate short-haul cargo transfers across terminals, warehouses and container yards, with installation of the equipment itself using existing rail tracks, as well as existing, modified rolling stock. This allows for an automated system without the need for the construction of any new track, minimising disruption and deployment time.
