The Candela P-12 electric hydrofoil has been selected to operate passenger services in Stockholm’s archipelago next year, continuing the collaboration between Candela, Region Stockholm and the Swedish Energy Agency.
The new service builds on the P-12 ‘Nova’ operation on the 89X line to Ekerö. Trials on this route demonstrated shorter travel times compared with conventional vessels, along with reduced emissions. In addition, passengers reportedly responded positively to the service.

Michaela Haga (C), Chair of Region Stockholm’s Maritime Transport Committee said:In our trials on the Ekerö route, we were able to offer significantly shorter travel times, and the response from passengers was fantastic. We also saw a substantial reduction in emissions. That’s why it’s exciting that we can now take the next step in the archipelago.
The introduction of the P-12 in the archipelago is part of broader efforts to expand electric passenger services and reduce emissions in regional maritime transport.
Alexander Sifvert, Head of Nordics at Candela said:After having our technology validated in demanding, high-frequency passenger operations in central Stockholm—where we demonstrated the P-12’s high reliability and popularity with passengers—we’re excited that the Region has chosen to trial P-12 in the archipelago. The P-12’s long range, high speed and low wake will allow for new routes to be electrified.
