The latest edition of the Singapore Maritime Technology & Research Roadmap has been launched by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI).

Unveiled during Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) 2026; the roadmap builds on the previous release from 2019, which sought to set the direction for a more advanced, efficient and sustainable maritime sector, enabling the establishment of maritime Centres of Excellence, as well as the implementation of the Maritime Transformation Programme.

The 2026 roadmap aims to sharpen the initiative’s existing focus on translating research into tangible, deployable solutions. It sets out key areas to strengthen resilience, improve productivity, and catalyse innovation across Singapore’s maritime ecosystem.

Priorities include the advancement of digital technologies at scale, support of practical decarbonisation pathways, and improvement of integration across port and shipping operations, whilst addressing structural constraints such as manpower requirements, and land and sea space limitations.

The roadmap sets out four key areas for action: Autonomous Port Operation; Safe and Efficient Delivery of Alternative Energy; Smart Ships; and Intelligent and Integrated Port Services. By defining these key areas, it aligns efforts across government, research institutions and the industry to accelerate adoption and reduce implementation risks, whilst encouraging industry partners to co-develop and pilot solutions, contribute operational insights, and support the scaling of proven technologies.

More than 100 million SGD will be invested into the research and development (R&D) of the four priority areas over the next five years, building on the more than 500 million SGD in funds already allocated to pursue maritime R&D in Singapore over the past 20 years.

The roadmap is available as an e-book and can be accessed via the Maritime Institute website, here.
