Rolls-Royce Power Systems will present a range of new marine propulsion and vessel management technologies at SMM 2026, including variable-speed generator sets, exhaust after-treatment systems and automation solutions aimed at improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.
Among the products on display will be the new mtu Series 2000 variable-speed generator sets, designed for workboats and a range of commercial and specialist vessels. Available in 8V to 16V configurations, the generator sets are intended for applications including passenger ferries, search and rescue (SAR) vessels, offshore support vessels, patrol boats and yachts.
According to Rolls-Royce, the variable-speed generator sets can reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by up to 15% compared with conventional constant-speed units by adjusting engine speed to match changing power demands. The company said the systems also reduce onboard noise and vibration, making them suitable for electric and hybrid vessel applications.
The company will also introduce a new selective catalytic reduction (SCR) exhaust after-treatment system designed to comply with IMO Tier III emissions requirements for vessels operating in designated emission control areas.
In addition to propulsion technologies, Rolls-Royce will showcase its mtu NautIQ automation platform, which includes bridge systems and data analytics tools intended to support vessel operations, fleet management and retrofit projects.
The company’s service offering will also feature at the exhibition, with maintenance support, extended service intervals, in-situ servicing and warranty programmes designed to support vessels throughout their operational life.
