Saronic and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) have announced a new partnership that aims to accelerate the development of autonomy-capable maritime systems and technologies in order to strengthen America’s shipbuilding industrial base.
Both companies will utilise their respective technology and expertise to build a maritime industrial capacity and workforce necessary to deliver on American and allied shipbuilding needs both in the present and in the future.
The partnership was unveiled during the launch of the Korea–U.S. Shipbuilding Partnership Center (KUSPC) in Washington, D.C., a brand-new organisation designed to deepen shipbuilding cooperation between the two allied nations and sponsored by the US Department of Commerce and Republic of Korea Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Resources (MOTIR).
With a goal of the exploration of advanced development of autonomy and AI-powered digital solutions, the partnership will seek to encompass collaboration on production infrastructure, including robotics-based process automation across Saronic’s shipyards.
For its part, Saronic will contribute its experience in autonomous systems and scalable manufacturing, whilst SHI will offer expertise relating to high-volume shipbuilding and vessel design. Together, both companies will explore opportunities to accelerate the development and production of next-generation maritime platforms.

Saronic recently announced that its multi-billion dollar shipyard, Port Alpha, will be built in Brownsville, Texas. The company also announced an investment of 300 million USD to expand capacity at its shipyard in Franklin, Louisiana.
