The Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, Bader Hood Al Mahmood, has stressed the importance of technical capacity as a key driver of maritime sustainability.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the first Level 1 training course accredited by the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) in the Kingdom of Bahrain; Al Mahmood underscored that Kingdom’s hosting of the course reflects its regional standing in the development of both national and regional capabilities in aids to navigation management, as well as its commitment to applying the highest international maritime safety standards.

The address was given by Al Mahmood during the first Level 1 training course accredited by the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA)

Al Mahmood also added that investments in technical capacity building will serve to further enhance the efficiency of the maritime marking system, as well as support the overall sustainability of the maritime sector and contribute to improved safety and the protection of both lives and property at sea.

The address was given in the presence of representatives of the IALA World-Wide Academy and specialists from the ports and maritime navigation sector, and the course itself was organised by Middle East Navigation Aids Services (MENAS) and the International Foundation for Aids to Navigation (IFAN), in cooperation with Trinity House (TH), and included trainees from several friendly and sister countries.

Al Mahmood commended the efforts of the IALA, MENAS, and Trinity House in organising the programme, expressing aspiration to further strengthen collaborative cooperation in training, knowledge transfer, and expertise exchange to support the development of the ports and maritime navigation sector in the region.
