Arcadis has been appointed as lead designer for the detailed design phase of the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project.
The company’s announcement follows the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s recent selection of TerraMarine as the preferred proponent for the project’s progressive design-build contract.
Once complete, the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 will increase the Port of Vancouver’s container capacity by 50% in an effort to strengthen Canada’s Pacific Gateway whilst supporting a more resilient and reliable supply chain.
The project will also enable Canada to export locally manufactured goods and produce to global markets, aiming to unlock over 100 billion CAD in annual trade capacity and generating long-term economic benefits in the process.
Arcadis is set to lead the project’s multidisciplinary design as a key member of the TerraMarine consortium, which is comprised of FlatironDragados Canada Inc., Van Oord Canada Ltd., Aecon Constructors (a division of Aecon Construction Group Inc.), and Carlson Construction Group Inc.
During the detailed design phase; Arcadis will undertake all coastal and mooring studies; geotechnical design and engineering, including ground modeling and seismic performance assessments; marine structures design for the main container wharf and berths; environmental permitting support; and the civil works required for the landmass and wharf, including widening the causeway connecting the terminal to land.

Throughout the multi-phased design-build process, Arcadis will work with TerraMarine, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, local First Nations, and project partners in order to advance an innovative, climate-resilient and constructible design.
More specifically, the firm will work with key sub-consultants, including Stantec Consulting Ltd., TYPSA Inc., and Tetra Tech Canada Inc. in order to bring together both local and international knowledge in marine engineering, environmental planning, geotechnical design, and major infrastructure delivery. This will include:
- Stantec Consulting Ltd. providing environmental planning, permitting and Indigenous engagement support;
- TYPSA Inc. providing specialised design for the project’s concrete caissons, which will form the terminal wharf; and
- Tetra Tech Canada Inc. supporting geotechnical engineering, drawing on its extensive experience delivering complex infrastructure projects across British Columbia.
