PSW Power & Automation AS has officially secured a new contract to deliver a full advanced Megawatt Charging System (MCS) infrastructure for the Virtsu–Kuivastu ferry connection in Estonia.
The connection acts as the main maritime link between the Estonian mainland and the island of Muhu – the gateway to Saaremaa.

Marking a significant milestone in the export of Norwegian maritime electrification technology to the European market, the new charging infrastructure will seek to enable the operation of fully electric ferries on the route whilst adding additional capacity for the broader transition to zero-emission maritime transport.

The contract will build on PSW’s experience pioneering MCS projects currently being delivered in Norway, where high-power DC charging, battery integration and intelligent energy management are now being deployed for the next generation of electric vessels.
Through these projects, PSW is working to develop a brand-new generation of MCS solutions based on a high-voltage 1500 VDC power architecture, enabling the delivery of higher efficiency, greater charging performance and the flexibility to meet future vessel electrification requirements.
