Jacobs has been chosen by the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) to provide consulting services for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean Ports Grant – funded Maine Port Electrification Clean Energy Planning Project.
The initiative, which aims to support the MaineDOT’s commitment to decarbonise operations at the ports of Portland, Eastport, Rockland and Searsport, will deliver emissions inventories, grid infrastructure assessments and electrification feasibility studies in order to prepare ports for future zero-emission operations.

Additionally, Jacobs will support the MaineDOT with workforce development planning, stakeholder engagement and the creation of a public-facing project website to keep communities informed and engaged.
The multi-year initiative is expected to be completed by 2027, and will provide a full, comprehensive roadmap for the reduction of emissions and modernisation of infrastructure across Maine.
Jacobs Vice President and Director of Operations Northeast Transportation Caitlin Johnson, said:Ports are critical gateways for economic growth and environmental stewardship.
By advancing electrification strategies tailored to Maine’s unique operations, this project will help reduce emissions, improve air quality and support Maine’s long-term clean energy and climate goals.
